Christmas Day galloped to victory in the 247th edition of the Epsom Derby on Saturday, showcasing Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien's impressive dominance with a record-setting 12th triumph as well as his fourth consecutive win.

The horse, starting at odds of 7-1 under jockey Ronan Whelan, overtook stablemate Action rounding Tattenham Corner and decisively surged down the home straight, fending off competitors.

Maltese Cross, trained by William Higgins and ridden by Tom Marquand, secured second place, while James J Braddock, trained by the winning trainer's son Joseph O'Brien, finished third.
