England cricket captain Ben Stokes voiced his dissatisfaction with the Lord's pitch used in the first test against New Zealand, arguing that such surfaces undermine the traditional format of test cricket. The match, marked by unpredictable bounce and a rain delay, ended with England securing a 115-run victory.

Stokes, addressing the BBC's Test Match Special, questioned the benefit of such pitches for test cricket's future, particularly amid discussions about preserving the five-day format. He expressed concerns about how a lack of stable conditions might affect the game's appeal.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), owner of the Lord's ground, attributed the pitch issues to adverse weather conditions and issued an apology for what became one of the shortest tests at Lord's. The second test is scheduled to begin on June 17 at The Oval.
