Iraq suffered a 2-0 defeat to Venezuela in a warm-up friendly before the World Cup, with Cristian Casseres scoring first. Following halftime, Jesus Ramirez secured the win for the South Americans. Iraq finished with ten men after Ali Youssef received a red card. Iraq will face Norway next.
In a critical World Cup warm-up match, Iraq fell to Venezuela with a 2-0 loss on Wednesday. The game, held in Bridgeville, Illinois, saw Venezuelan midfielder Cristian Casseres shine as he netted the first goal in the 17th minute.
Immediately after the break, Venezuela solidified their victory when Casseres intercepted a play and passed to striker Jesus Ramirez. Ramirez's remarkable dribbling and a powerful finish left both the defender and Iraqi goalkeeper helpless.
Iraq's misfortunes worsened as forward Ali Youssef was issued a straight red card in the 72nd minute, reducing them to ten players. Looking ahead, Iraq, returning to the World Cup after 40 years, is set to launch their campaign against Norway on June 17.
