The second edition of the CM Trophy, aptly titled CM Trophy 2.0, wrapped up successfully on Wednesday, marking a pivotal advancement in Odisha's grassroots sports framework. With age categories spanning U-15 for football, U-14 for kho kho and volleyball, and U-16 for kabaddi, the competition drew an impressive 30,000 participants. This overwhelming engagement underscores the tournament's status as Odisha's largest grassroots sports initiative, and highlights the state government's ongoing resolve to foster youth sports, enhance participation at the community level, and craft a robust talent identification strategy.
In the boys' categories, Baragarh triumphed in football U-15, while Puri clinched kho kho U-14. Balasore emerged victorious in kabaddi U-16, and Cuttack dominated volleyball U-14. In the girls' brackets, Bhubaneswar seized the football U-15 title, Khordha led in kho kho and volleyball U-14, and Puri prevailed in kabaddi U-16. Building on the inaugural edition's success, which focused solely on football, CM Trophy 2.0 expanded to encompass multiple sports disciplines, widening the scope for talent showcase and structured competition.
This expanded format not only provided an invigorated competitive arena for budding athletes but also cemented Odisha's athlete-centered development approach. Through a well-defined talent scouting and assessment framework, identified athletes will gain access to advanced training opportunities, fortifying Odisha’s sporting future. The CM Trophy initiative is set to remain a cornerstone of the state's long-term strategy to cultivate the next wave of sports champions.
