Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper returned to the lineup Sunday as the designated hitter, two days after a 96-mph fastball bruised his right ankle. Harper said he was "a little sore" and sat out Saturday's spring training game, but was slated to bat third Sunday against a New York Yankees split squad in Clearwater, Fla.

Harper, who signed a 13-year, $330 million contract, and Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said they weren't concerned about his readiness for Opening Day in Philadelphia on March 28. The X-rays taken after he was hit by a pitch Friday from Toronto Blue Jays rookie Trent Thornton were negative.

"I wish I would have dodged the ball," said Harper, who entered Sunday's game hitless in 10 plate appearances over four exhibition games.
