Swiss attorney general's reelection postponed amid soccer probe - local media
A parliamentary vote over Lauber's re-election was due to be held in June. But a parliamentary judicial committee, which heard Lauber earlier this week, decided on Wednesday to postpone its decision on whether to support his re-election, Swiss media reported.
"The Judicial Committee does not want to make any hasty decisions," its head, Jean-Paul Gschwind, told Swiss national press agency SDA. Neither the Judicial Committee nor the attorney general's office responded to email and phone requests for comment on Wednesday evening local time.
"The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has noted the decision of the Judicial Committee in relation to the election of the Attorney General and his deputies for the 2020-2023 term of office," the OAG said in a statement. A separate parliamentary committee is looking into differences between the attorney general's office and the supervisory authority overseeing it, it said.
"The OAG will continue to cooperate with the (Supervisory Authority for the Office of the Attorney General) within the legal framework of its supervisory activities," it said, adding the office would continue carrying out its criminal proceedings.
