MLB-record 1,135 home runs launched in May

More home runs were launched in May than in any previous month in major league history. Forty homers on Friday night brought the total to 1,135, eclipsing the mark of 1,119 set in August 2017.

Toronto rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit the record-breaking 1,120th round-tripper in the eighth inning at Colorado, a solo shot off reliever Chris Rusin. Big league hitters averaged one home run every 25.0 at-bats in May, the highest monthly rate in history according to ESPN Stats & Information.
