The Minnesota Twins reinstated pitcher Jake Odorizzi from the 10-day injured list in time to start Saturday's game at the Cleveland Indians. Odorizzi (10-4, 3.15 ERA) missed his first All-Star Game appearance after being placed on the injured list a day after his July 2 start at Oakland because of a blister on his right middle finger. Due to the All-Star break, he missed only one start.

He took the loss to the Athletics, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in three-plus innings. He left after giving up a grand slam to Chris Herrmann. Odorizzi's 10 wins are one shy of his career high, and his 3.15 ERA, 1.117 WHIP and 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings are all on pace to be the best of his career. This is his second season in Minnesota after he spent one year in Kansas City and five seasons in Tampa Bay.

In a corresponding move, the Twins designated left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejia for release or assignment. Mejia appeared in 13 games for the Twins this season, going 0-2 with an 8.80 ERA in 15 1/3 innings. --Field Level Media
