Yankees IF Torres released from hospital (core issue)
- Country:
- United States
Gleyber Torres was hospitalized Sunday night after leaving in the eighth inning of the New York Yankees' 7-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox with what manager Aaron Boone called a "core issue." Torres' father later tweeted that his son is fine and left the hospital. He also said he would be on the bus to Baltimore, where the Yankees are set to open a three-game series Monday night.
It is unclear when Torres was injured during the game. He went 0-3 as the starting second baseman and lead-off hitter before being replaced in the top of the eighth inning. Fellow infielder Gio Urshela was also injured after fouling two balls off his leg in the sixth inning before being replaced. X-rays on his leg were negative.
Torres -- who was named an All-Star for the second straight season -- is hitting .286 with a .353 on-base percentage, 23 home runs, and 62 RBIs. Despite the many injuries New York has sustained over the course of the season, they have the best record in the American League at 72-39 entering Monday.
