St. Louis Blues defenseman Joel Edmundson was awarded a one-year, $3.1 million contract by an independent arbitrator on Tuesday. The decision follows a salary arbitration hearing that was held on Sunday in Toronto.

Edmundson, 26, appeared in 64 regular-season games with the Blues last season, posting 11 points (two goals, nine assists). He added seven points (one goal, six assists) in 22 playoff games as the Blues won their first Stanley Cup. "We are glad to have Joel under contract for next season," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said, via NHL.com. "He is an important part of our defensive unit and we are looking forward to another successful year."

The Blues selected Edmundson in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft. In four seasons in St. Louis, he has collected 52 points (13 goals, 39 assists) in 269 regular-season games and 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 49 playoff games.
