All Meta Account users on Quest 2 and Quest 3 platforms will have to reconfirm their age by re-entering their birthdate, the company said on Tuesday, adding that this will help ensure that everyone using Quest has access to features that are appropriate for their age group, including age-appropriate safety and privacy features.

Users will be prompted to log into their Meta account and re-enter their birthdate within 30 days. It is important to enter your birthday within the 30-day window to prevent temporary account restrictions.

"Birthdate information is not visible to others unless you choose to share it. Once you enter your birthdate, we’ll help make sure you’re in the right account, which is designed with specific defaults and tools based on your age," Meta said.

When setting up an account on Meta Quest, adult users have the option to choose between a private or public profile. You can control the visibility of your current app usage, activity, and active status. While the active status is visible to followers and connections by default for 18+, it can be turned off at any time.

Teen accounts are configured with privacy in mind, setting profiles to private by default and concealing activity and active status unless the teen (13-17) chooses to share them. Meta also offers parental supervision tools for teens, enhancing safety and promoting healthy VR usage conversations.

The most restrictive settings are applied to preteen accounts (10-12), which are approved and managed by their parents or guardians. For these accounts, all activities and statuses are set to private and parents have the authority to control app downloads, usage, and block specific apps.

"On our app store, we want to make it easier for developers to better understand the ages of people who use their apps so they can provide age-appropriate experiences for preteens, teens and adults. Parents, in turn, can trust that apps are providing the most age-appropriate experience and protections the app offers for their child’s age," Meta said in a statement.
