BSNL Unveils Revolutionary 4G and 5G Ready Universal SIM Platform
BSNL, in partnership with Pyro Holdings, has launched a 4G and 5G compatible Universal SIM (USIM) platform. This platform allows subscribers to choose their mobile numbers and replace SIMs without geographical restrictions. It aims to improve connectivity and service quality nationwide, particularly aiding rural and remote areas.
State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will roll out a 4G and 5G compatible over-the-air (OTA) and Universal SIM (USIM) platform, providing subscribers the flexibility to choose their mobile numbers and replace SIMs without geographical boundaries.
Developed in collaboration with Pyro Holdings, the platform was inaugurated in Chandigarh, featuring a disaster recovery site in Trichy. This initiative aligns with BSNL's ongoing upgrades to 4G and 5G networks, positioning the company at the forefront of telecommunications innovation.
BSNL aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring equitable access to advanced telecom services, especially in rural and remote areas. Union telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the installation of 80,000 4G towers by October, with additional 21,000 by March 2025. BSNL has commenced 4G services in select locations, including Punjab, using indigenously developed network equipment.
