India on Tuesday successfully test-fired a Long Range Glide Bomb, known as GAURAV, from the Su-30 MK-I platform of the Indian Air Force off the Odisha coast.
Organised by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), GAURAV is a 1,000 kg class air-launched glide bomb designed to hit targets at extended distances. After its launch, the bomb accurately steers towards the target using a hybrid navigation system combining INS and GPS data. Indigenously developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, this advanced weapon demonstrated pinpoint accuracy by hitting its target at Long Wheeler's island.
The successful flight test was monitored by senior DRDO scientists, with additional participation from Adani Defence and Bharat Forge, who are the Development cum Production Partners. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the achievement, calling it a significant milestone in strengthening the capabilities of the Armed Forces through indigenous technology. Secretary of Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat also congratulated the team for their accomplishment.
