Tech Workers Rally for Work-Life Balance in Bengaluru

The Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU) organized a protest in Bengaluru to demand a healthier work-life balance for IT workers. Despite a low turnout, union leaders criticized industry giants for exploiting workers and urged government intervention to enforce labour laws on working hours and overtime pay.

In response to the Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union's call, more than 100 people assembled at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Sunday to demand a better work-life balance in the IT sector.

Despite a lower-than-expected turnout, KITU advisor Vasanthraj remarked that, given Bengaluru's status as a tech hub, a larger attendance was needed to amplify their collective voice. He criticized IT industry leaders for profiting from foreign exchange rates while squeezing workers.

KITU member Ram indicated the protest aimed to counter recent comments from industry figures who blamed employees for the sector's stagnation. General Secretary Suhas Adiga highlighted the detrimental health impacts of long working hours in the industry and criticized the lack of government action despite union efforts to enforce labor laws.
