A recent report has highlighted a notable increase in the participation of women in India's tech contractual workforce, rising to 27.98% in 2024 from 9.51% in 2020. Despite this growth, women in tech roles face substantial challenges in career advancement and equal pay, according to the study.
The report, 'Gender Parity: Shaping Workforce Equity,' by TeamLease Digital, attributes this increase to advancements in digital infrastructure, enhanced remote work opportunities, and improved Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. However, these improvements have not yet translated into significant career progression or pay parity.
TeamLease Digital CEO Neeti Sharma stressed the need for long-term structural changes to foster environments in which women can advance and lead. The gender pay gap remains pronounced, with disparities of 6% at entry levels, rising to 19% at mid-level roles, but slightly reducing at senior levels.
