HHS Announces Major Workforce Reduction and Structural Overhaul
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces a significant reduction in its workforce, cutting down from 82,000 to 62,000 full-time employees. The restructuring includes consolidation from 28 to 15 divisions, a reduction in regional offices, and the creation of a new division focused on health administration.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has unveiled a major initiative to restructure its organization, resulting in a workforce reduction of approximately 10,000 full-time employees. The strategic reshaping will see the total workforce downsized from 82,000 to 62,000 personnel.
As part of the overhaul, the agency plans to consolidate its existing 28 divisions into 15 newly formed divisions, aiming to boost efficiency and streamline operations. Additionally, the number of regional offices will be reduced from ten to five, further centralizing its administrative functions.
HHS is also set to introduce a new division called the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA), merging several agencies such as OASH, HRSA, SAMHSA, ATSDR, and NIOSH. Moreover, the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response will be transferred to the CDC, underscoring HHS's commitment to enhancing public health infrastructure.
