Chinese cyberattacks on Taiwan have intensified in 2024, rising by 17% from the previous year, according to the National Security Bureau. The bureau cited a daily average of 2.8 million attacks on Taiwanese government networks.
Beijing's 'online troll army' has been implicated in these cyber offensives aimed at destabilizing Taiwan. Tactics include disseminating fake news through the dark web, media channels, and internet forums to undermine public trust in governmental cybersecurity.
The report pointed out that China's covert operations extend to Taiwan's defense, telecommunications, and medical sectors. Despite China's denial of the accusations, foreign governments frequently allege Beijing's involvement in cyber warfare campaigns.
