India's Semiconductor Leap: Modernizing the Semi-Conductor Laboratory

The Indian government has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest Rs 4,500 crore over the next three years for the modernization of the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), a pivotal state-owned chip manufacturing facility.

SCL operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and remains the country's sole integrated device manufacturing site. This modernization effort is aimed at significantly boosting its production capacity and aligning it with the latest technological standards, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the strategic importance of SCL in advancing semiconductor research and development in India. He reassured that there are no plans to privatize the facility while urging the Punjab government to expedite the allotment of 25 acres of land necessary for the lab's expansion.
