The U.S. Commerce Department is planning to allow Nvidia's H200 chip export to China, reported by Semafor. This news led to a 2.2% rise in Nvidia's shares. The H200 chip has significantly more memory than its predecessor, making it capable of processing data faster.
The U.S. Commerce Department is set to approve the export of Nvidia's H200 chip to China, according to sources. News of this development triggered a 2.2% increase in Nvidia's share price almost immediately, though official confirmation from the company and the department is still pending.
The Trump administration had previously contemplated sanctioning these sales after reversing an earlier ban. The H200, boasting more high-bandwidth memory than its predecessor H100, enhances data processing speeds, making it a hot commodity for artificial intelligence advancements.
The chip is purported to be twice as powerful as Nvidia's current H20 chip, marking a significant stride in AI semiconductor technology and further fueling the global technology race.
