India's Defence Exports Surge: A New Dawn in Global Arms Market

India's defence exports for the fiscal year surged by over 62%, reaching 384.24 billion rupees. This rise showcases the global acceptance of Indian-made defence products, reflecting the country's transition from a major importer to a competitive exporter. India now exports to more than 80 countries, integrating into international supply chains.

India has reported a remarkable surge in its defence exports for the fiscal year ending in March, reaching a total of 384.24 billion rupees, or $4.11 billion, marking an impressive increase of over 62% compared to the previous year. This development was confirmed in a government statement on Thursday.

The exports, valued at 236.22 billion rupees from April 2024 to March 2025, indicate a significant jump, adding 148.02 billion rupees for the following fiscal year. The surge underscores India's growing prowess in international defence manufacturing and its increasing integration into global supply chains.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted India's transformation from an import-dependent nation to a rising arms exporter. India, now exporting to over 80 countries, is also the world's fifth-largest military spender and the second-largest arms importer. This reflects the country's commitment to advancing its local manufacturing capabilities, including producing guns, drones, fighter jets, and submarines.
