The European Commission has initiated discussions with two significant players in the U.S. artificial intelligence industry, OpenAI and Anthropic, as revealed by an announcement made on Monday.
Thomas Regnier, a spokesperson for the Commission, stated that OpenAI has expressed a willingness to provide access to its latest AI model. This proactive step has been met with approval by the Commission. At the same time, the Commission has conducted four to five meetings with Anthropic; however, talks about granting access to their AI models have not yet commenced.
"With OpenAI, there is a company proactively offering access," Regnier remarked during a daily briefing. "With Anthropic, we've had positive exchanges, but it's too early to speculate on access," he added, highlighting the different stages of discussions with the two companies.
