Karnataka's Minister M B Patil has submitted a formal request to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, advocating for the establishment of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) campus in the state. Patil's proposal underscores Karnataka's substantial role in India's aerospace industry, attributing 65% of the national aerospace and defence output to the region.
In his letter, Patil argues that Karnataka, home to key industry players like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), ISRO, and the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), is strategically positioned to support the AMCA project. The minister highlights the presence of a well-established aerospace ecosystem, including potential industry partners and significant private sector investment.
As per Karnataka's Aerospace and Defence Policy (2022-27), the state aims to attract USD 6 billion in investments and create 70,000 jobs. The state government has expressed readiness to provide land and necessary infrastructure to accelerate the AMCA programme, reinforcing its commitment to national defence and technological progress.
