After Hongmeng, Huawei reportedly files trademark application for 'Harmony OS'

The application was filed by Forresters, the same firm that also filed a trademark for Huawei’s Hongmeng OS.

After announcing its in-house Hongmeng OS, Chinese smartphones and telecommunications giant Huawei has reportedly filed a trademark application with the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for yet another Operating System named 'Harmony'.

According to the Gizmochina report, the trademark is related to "mobile operating systems; computer operating systems; downloadable operating system programs." The application was filed by Forresters, the same firm that also filed a trademark for Huawei's Hongmeng OS.

In a recent interview with French weekly magazine Le Point, Chinese tech giant Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei has claimed that its Hongmeng OS is possibly faster than Google's Android and Apple's macOS.

Huawei has been working on its own operating system as an alternative to Android to reduce its dependence on Google following the US trade restrictions. The company has been facing intense pressure from the United States as the latter has accused it of stealing American intellectual property and violating Iran sanctions. However, President Donald Trump announced last month that American companies would be allowed to sell products to Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker.
