Los Angeles, Aug 15 (PTI) Evangeline Lilly has revealed she wanted to play the iconic character of Princess Leia in 2005's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

The "Ant-Man and The Wasp" star said she was so keen on essaying the role, immortalized by veteran actor Carrie Fisher, that for the first time ever, she went on to request a producer to give her the job, CNET.com reported.

"When JJ (Abrams) announced that he was gonna do his first 'Star Wars' film, I reached out to his producing partner for the first time ever since (ABC plane-crash drama) 'Lost' ended.

"I never requested anything ever before, and I said, 'I wanna be Leia! Make me Leia!'" Lilly said at Fan Expo Boston this weekend.

Her wish may not have come true but the actor said she is delighted to play The Wasp. She added she loves the equation Ant-Man and her character share, and she would not like a stand-alone for The Wasp, except under one circumstance.

"I love the team aspect of it. I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp. For me, it's the most fun part of the film.

"So I don't love the idea of breaking them up -- except if there was an all-female Avengers film. Then I'm in," she said.

Lilly earlier hinted that she will share screen space with Brie Larson's Captain Marvel in the Avengers 4, which is due next year.
