Germany on Tuesday will strike at airports. This was announced by the trade union Verdi, which demands higher salaries. Passengers have to wait at airports in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Cologne, and Bremen with long-distance interruptions and long waiting times. In North Rhine-Westphalia, local transport will also be restricted. The strike at German airports will also affect the connections with Prague.

Abandoning activity is mainly ground staff, restrictions at airports will be considerable, said the head of Verdi Frank Bsirske in Berlin. The Frankfurt airport, which is the largest in Germany, strikes from 05:00 to 18:00. It is not yet known exactly what links are threatened, but it will probably be mainly about departures. Especially closed are gateways A and Z of Terminal 1.

Europe's largest airline, Lufthansa, canceled over 800 scheduled flights Tuesday. It is mostly short-haul flights, but also 58 long-haul flights.

The strike will also affect the connections between Germany and the Czech Republic. Prague Airport Václav Havel has announced on Tuesday the cancellation of four return flights - two connections between Prague and Frankfurt am Main and two connections with Munich. "But it is possible that the number of flights canceled will still change," Roman Pacvoň from the press department of the airport told CTK.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, traffic in local transport, nurseries, municipal businesses and city administrations will also be limited. Throughout Germany, various bets can be expected by April 13, the DPA said.

Trade unions demand a six percent salary growth for approximately 2.3 million employees in different public sector positions. The third round of remuneration negotiations is scheduled for 15 and 16 April.
