The Slovenian parliament's election commission has recommended that the lawmakers-elect Primoz Dolenc as governor of the Bank of Slovenia, the panel said on Thursday.

The commission's backing does not guarantee Dolenc, now deputy governor of the central bank will become governor. At least 46 of parliament's 90 members will need to vote for him in a ballot that is expected to take place on Tuesday.

If elected, Dolenc would replace Bostjan Jazbec, who resigned in April to take a position on the European Union's Single Resolution Board, the agency in charge of disposing of failing banks. Dolenc would also sit on the European Central Bank's governing council.

President Borut Pahor nominated Dolenc last month, although the parties that formed a minority coalition government in September after a general election in June failed to agree on a joint candidate for the governor's position.
