Nigerian first lady congratulates female candidates for winning Senate primary election

Mrs. Aisha Buhari called to the female candidate to show a good example in their political journey

Nigerian first lady wife of president Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has congratulated two female candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) party for winning primary elections of Senate in Adamawa state. In a statement signed by Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna Mrs. Buhari called to the female candidate to show a good example in their political journey and carry women along in their respective areas.

The other All Progressives Congress (APC) party candidate Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has been fiercely rejected by Itsekiri women activist Rita Lori Ogbebor as a senatorial standard bearer for Delta south in next year general election.

Itsekiri chief Lori Ogbebor said, "there was no election whatsoever and former governor of Delta south state Uduaghan was imposed by the party's chairman Adams Oshiomhole.

In a press conference, Lori-Ogbebor called on President Buhari and APC leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to cancel the exercise and conduct a fresh one that meets the basic minimum test of credibility and transparency involving other candidates as well.

AVM Terry Omatsola and Temisan Omatseye are the other candidates in the fray for Delta South state.

Nigeria which has lower women representation in politics has just 7 out of 109 legislators in the Senate and since Independence from the British in 1960 no women candidate has ever been elected governor for any of Nigeria's 36 states.
