Indonesia will lead the IMT-GT summit 2019 in Thailand

Indonesia will replace Thailand as chairman of the 12th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth summit (IMT-GT) to be held on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Thailand in 2019.

The IMT-GT is an ASEAN sub-regional group aimed at enhancing economic development in 32 regions in three countries. 10 provinces in Indonesia, eight states in northern Malaysia, and 14 provinces in southern Thailand.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced the change of leadership at the 11th IMT-GT summit. The summit was attended by Indonesian attended by the Indonesian President Jako Widodo and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Musa Hitam along with the implementation of the 32nd ASEAN summit in Singapore.

In the IMT-GT summit, the leader discussed developing green cities and sustainable tourism along with enhancing regional connectivity. The summit was also attended by the ASEAN general secretary and Vice president of Asian Development Bank.

Vice President of ADB Stephen P. Groff said that ADB had been a partner of the IMT-GT programme since 2007, where ADB invested in a project of USD 47 billion, to realize a tri-nation vision of innovative, inclusive, integrated sustainable development in 2036.

Indonesian Government will lead the 12th IMT-GT in Thailand and hope to continue the sustainable development programme through a tri-nation growth mechanism.
