India Celebrates 70th Republic Day, Cyril Ramaphosa as Chief Guest

Google celebrates India's Republic Day with a stunning colourful doodle on January 26, 2019. This year, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa will be attending the Republic Day ceremony in the capital city of New Delhi as the chief guest. After President of the United States expressed his inability to attend the event highlighting other commitments, the invitation was extended to South Africa's Head of State.

In every year, mainly since 2014, India's Republic Day has been observing the presence of big political stalwarts from other countries. In 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, former US President Barrack Obama, former France's President François Hollande, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan respectively were the chief guests. Whereas, Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen and Indonesia's President Joko Widodo were the chief guests in Republic Day 2018.

This year, India is going to celebrate the 70^th Republic Day on January 26. 22 tableaux from various states and central government departments on developmental, cultural and historical themes will be part of this year's Republic Day parade. According to the Home Ministry office memorandum, Some of the tableaux on cultural themes will have integrated folk dances.

The Constitution came into effect on the same date in 1950 after it was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. 26 January was chosen as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime.
