Google celebrates St. David's Day with a colorful doodle

Today Google is celebrating St. David's Day with a colourful doodle which is visible to users of the United Kingdom. Google in its doodle shows a red giant dragon with a Welsh girl in traditional costume holding Wales' national flower daffodils. He is traditionally believed to be the son of Saint Non and the grandson of Ceredig ap Cunedda, king of Ceredigion.

Saint David's Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March, the date of Saint David's death in 589 AD.

St. David's Day is celebrated since Dewi Sant's canonization in the 12th century. Saint David was a Welsh bishop of Mynyw (now St Davids) during the 6th century. He is the patron saint of Wales. David was a native of Wales, and a relatively large amount of information is known about his life.

David is said to have played a role in spreading Christianity on the continent, inspiring numerous place names in Brittany including Saint-Divy, Saint-Yvi and Landivy.
