A decommissioned Indian Naval aircraft Tu–142, which has been turned into a museum, was inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada on Friday.

The Tu-142 museum is the third such museum after similar ones in Visakhapatnam and Kolkata.

It was inaugurated by Kakinada Lok Sabha member Vanga Geetha Vishwanath.

''The iconic Indian Navy's Aircraft Tu-142 has found a new home as a museum at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh,'' the Visakhapatnam-based Eastern Naval Command (ENC) said in a statement.

N Sudeep, commodore (aviation), ENC, took the audience down memory lane as he recalled the remarkable 30-year journey of the naval aircraft.

''Stationed initially at INS Hansa, Goa, and later at INS Rajali, Arakkonam, the aircraft played a pivotal role as a long-range maritime reconnaissance anti-submarine warfare asset for the Indian Navy,'' the press release added.
