In a packed auditorium at Chatham House, African Development Bank Group President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina delivered an impassioned speech to a diverse audience, emphasizing Africa's vast potential and abundant opportunities.

Addressing the audience at the renowned institution, Adesina outlined his optimism and passion for Africa, describing it as a continent of immense possibilities. He highlighted Africa's young, dynamic workforce, renewable energy potential, rich biodiversity, rapid regional integration, and innovative solutions aimed at unlocking the continent's natural resources.

Despite global challenges, Adesina noted Africa's resilience, with the continent being the second-fastest-growing region after Asia. Citing the Bank's African Economic Outlook Report, he revealed a projected economic growth of 3.7% for 2024, increasing to 4.3% in 2025. Adesina highlighted that 15 countries achieved real growth rates of at least 5%, with half of the world's 20 fastest-growing economies located in Africa.

However, he acknowledged significant hurdles, including climate change, rising debt, and the need for global financial reforms, to achieve strong economic prospects and resilience.

Adesina emphasized the importance of structural changes in Africa's economies, focusing on agriculture productivity, electricity provision, infrastructure investments, digitalization, and job opportunities for women and youth. He highlighted successes such as the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, which has helped millions of farmers increase crop productivity.

Despite challenges, Adesina praised the resilience and dedication of African women-led organizations in the humanitarian response, operating in hazardous conditions. He urged increased funding and support for these organizations to reach the most vulnerable women and girls.

Reflecting on the Bank's achievements, Adesina highlighted the recent approval of a $117 billion callable capital increase to enhance the Bank's lending capacity. He underscored initiatives such as the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa (AGIA) and the Desert-to-Power project, emphasizing Africa's potential to lead the energy transition with renewable resources.

Adesina concluded with optimism, asserting Africa's critical role in the global economy and expressing confidence in the continent's future prosperity. He highlighted initiatives such as the Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) and the Africa Investment Forum, which are driving inclusive growth and attracting investment to Africa.

In closing, Adesina reiterated his vision of Africa as a pivotal continent: "Africa is critical to the future of the world. It's a vision Africa deserves, and it's a vision we'll achieve."
