Mumbai airport has revolutionized its passenger handling capacity, boosting it to around 8,000 passengers per hour with the expansion of both DigiYatra and non-DigiYatra facilities across its terminals. This initiative also reduces curbside wait time to under one minute. By deploying AI/ML-enabled cameras, the airport is set to bolster overall security measures, according to Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).
The airport's number of entry lanes or e-gates has soared from 24 to 68, the highest in the country, with 34 dedicated exclusively for DigiYatra passengers. This expansion required no structural changes, adopting a digital gateway solution instead. Terminal 1, which serves only domestic passengers, now boasts six dedicated DigiYatra e-gates and six non-DigiYatra e-gates, further augmenting passenger processing capacity.
An additional 118 e-gates are being deployed at Terminal 2's Pre-embarkation Security Check (PESC) area, simplifying passenger movement further. With biometric validation, DigiYatra passengers enjoy a seamless travel experience, bypassing the need to show tickets or boarding passes. 'We have significantly expanded our DigiYatra facility on our digital gateway platform at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). By increasing the number of e-gates and integrating advanced biometric systems, we are committed to ensuring swift, secure, and seamless travel for all our passengers,' stated MIAL.
