The India-Austria Business Forum, held in Vienna, emphasized a solid framework for bilateral cooperation across various sectors. R K Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Investments and Internal Trade, highlighted that the two-way trade between India and Austria, valued at approximately USD 2 billion, is reasonably balanced.
Singh emphasized the strategic importance of sustainable growth and showcased the successes of multinational investments in India. Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Federation of Austrian Industries, the forum took place during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Austria, fostering dialogues on strategic partnerships and mutual growth opportunities.
Austria's Minister of Labour and Economy, Martin Kocher, praised India's vibrant startup ecosystem, stating it is among the most dynamic globally. He identified renewable energy, smart cities, audiovisual and films, and tourism as key areas for collaboration.
Sanjiv Puri, President of CII, expressed Indian companies' interest in investing in Austria, particularly in research and development, artificial intelligence, and software targeting the European market. Puri underscored the importance of collaborations in sustainable agriculture, water treatment, and food processing.
Immediate Past President of CII, R Dinesh, highlighted Austria's crucial role in India's globalization efforts, pointing out opportunities in manufacturing, construction, logistics, and the India-EU trade agreement. He emphasized Austria's significance as a partner in India's journey towards globalization.
Tejpreet Chopra, President and CEO of Bharat Light & Power Private Ltd., stressed innovation, automation, and startup opportunities between India and Austria, highlighting the potential for technological exchange. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII, called for enhanced bilateral cooperation through short-term mobility and technical training programs to address skill gaps in Austria.
Austrian companies shared insights into opportunities in India, discussing their successes in renewable energy, automotive, space, and robotics sectors. Indian startups showcased their capabilities, enriching discussions on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
