Delhi Government Sets Up Facility for Seized E-Rickshaws in Burari

The Delhi government's transport department has established a dedicated facility in Burari to house e-rickshaws seized for traffic rule violations. The facility can accommodate about 700 e-rickshaws. With around 1.2 lakh registered e-rickshaws in the city, the department currently seizes around 50 units daily. This initiative follows a recent crackdown on e-rickshaws violating traffic norms.

The Delhi government's transport department has inaugurated a specialized facility in Burari aimed at housing e-rickshaws impounded for violating traffic rules, officials announced on Friday.

This newly established Burari facility has a capacity to accommodate approximately 700 e-rickshaws, catering to a significant portion of the city's 1.2 lakh registered e-rickshaws.

According to transport department data, an average of 50 e-rickshaws is being seized daily so far in July. This measure comes after previous storage pits in Sarai Kale Khan and Dwarka were deemed inadequate. The department had initiated a crackdown in areas around the Ring Road ahead of the G20 Summit, focusing on e-rickshaws flouting traffic regulations.

Notably, the government had previously banned the operation and parking of e-rickshaws on 236 major roads in the national capital since 2014, including prominent areas like Barkhamba Road, Tilak Marg, Rafi Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg.
