Mumbai's Metro Line 3 Set to Revolutionize City Commutes

BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde announced that Mumbai's first underground Metro rail corridor, the 33.5 km long Metro Line 3, will begin operations on July 24. The route, connecting south Mumbai to the western suburbs, promises to ease local commute. However, Tawde later deleted the social media post.

Mumbai's first underground Metro rail corridor, Metro Line 3, is scheduled to start operations from July 24, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde announced on social media on Wednesday. The 33.5 km underground route, also referred to as Mumbai Metro Aqua Line or Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Line, aims to alleviate pressure on the suburban locals.

"Mumbai's first underground metro (Aqua Line) is starting from July 24, which will give new impetus to the speed of the city," Tawde stated on X.

Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) completed successful trials for the line's rolling stock last month.

Tawde mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to make life easier for Mumbaikars, a goal that will be achieved through Metro Line 3. The post was later removed, and efforts to get comments from Ashwini Bhide, managing director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), were unsuccessful. The MMRCL spokesperson also did not respond to queries.

Funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project costs Rs 37,276 crore, including a JICA loan of Rs 21,280 crore, as revised by the Union government in February.
