NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday appealed to the public to unite and transform Maharashtra into a ''premier destination'' for trade and industry.
Speaking at a party rally in Pimpri-Chinchwad, he recounted how the area evolved into an industrial hub due to the efforts of late Y B Chavan, Maharashtra's first chief minister.
With the assembly elections approaching in October, Pawar stressed the importance of continued development. He noted the growth of Pimpri-Chinchwad into an automobile hub, with Hinjewadi and Chakan emerging as IT centers.
''The development should not stop. We have to come together to make the state a premier destination for trade and industry,'' he stated.
Highlighting the government's achievements, Pawar said, “Our government changed the face of Pimpri Chinchwad from a collection of small villages into an IT hub, providing jobs to the youth. The Opposition aims to steer this state and our country in a new direction.”
Madhav Kinhalkar, formerly with BJP and a minister of state for home in Pawar's government from 1990 to 1995, joined the NCP during the rally. He was originally a Congress leader and represented Bhokar in Nanded district as an MLA.
