Heavy Rains Disrupt Mumbai: 36 Flights Cancelled
Intermittent heavy rains in Mumbai on Sunday led to the cancellation of 36 flights and temporary suspension of runway operations. The affected flights were primarily from IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara. The continuous downpour also caused disruptions in road and rail services across the city.
Intermittent heavy rains in Mumbai on Sunday led to significant disruptions, including the cancellation of 36 flights and temporary suspension of runway operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Sources confirmed that budget airline IndiGo, along with full-service carriers Air India and Vistara, were principally affected by the inclement weather.
“Heavy rains, which continued to hit the city at frequent intervals, combined with low visibility, resulted in the cancellation of 18 arrivals and 18 departures,” stated the source. IndiGo faced the brunt with 24 flights cancelled, including 12 departures, while Air India and Vistara cancelled eight and four flights respectively.
Runway operations were suspended twice: first for eight minutes at 12:12 PM, and subsequently from 1 PM to 1:15 PM due to deteriorating weather conditions. At least 15 flights, including those from Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa, were diverted to nearby airports such as Ahmedabad. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reported substantial rainfall, with 82 mm recorded in the city. Heavy rains also led to flooding on roads and railway tracks, severely impacting road and rail services.
