Euro area short-dated bond yields dropped on Thursday, and the German yield curve reached its least inverted level in six months following weak economic data. Investors are increasingly betting on a quicker European Central Bank monetary easing cycle, especially after the Ifo Institute reported a decline in its business climate index to 87.0 in July from 88.6 in June, against analysts' expectations of 88.9.

German short-dated bond yields fell significantly, with the two-year yield dropping 6.5 basis points to 2.65%, hitting its lowest since February. Meanwhile, the euro zone benchmark 10-year Bund yield dropped by 4.5 basis points to 2.40%. This brought the yield curve to its least inverted level since January.

Money markets are now fully pricing in 50 basis points of ECB rate cuts, with a slight chance of a third easing move by the end of the year. The ECB deposit rate currently stands at 3.75%. Investors are also watching U.S. data, with expectations for the GDP figures to potentially influence Fed rate decisions later this year.
