The Regional Commission for Africa hosted a pivotal forum, "Promoting Africa to Unlock Tourism Investments and the Sector's Growth Potential," aimed at identifying new opportunities and addressing key challenges in the continent's tourism sector. The event, which forms part of UN Tourism's broader strategy to foster a positive narrative for the industry across Africa, brought together leaders from both the public and private sectors.

UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, who welcomed the high-level participants, emphasized the critical role of collaboration with African Member States to highlight the uniqueness and diversity of African tourism. "Working closely with African nations is essential to showcase the rich and varied experiences that the continent offers," Pololikashvili stated.

Executive Director Natalia Bayona echoed these sentiments, stressing the urgency of increasing investments to drive innovation and creativity in African tourism. "We need to grow investments in this sector to ensure that African destinations gain greater visibility on the global tourism stage," she noted.

The forum featured key stakeholders, including the CEO of the Zambia Tourism Agency, leaders from Africa Tourism Partners, and influential figures from businesses and civil society organizations, including Meta. Discussions revolved around enhancing Brand Africa through strengthened public-private partnerships and revitalizing the continent's image to boost tourism competitiveness. Media experts also contributed to think tank sessions focused on "shifting the narrative" of African tourism.

A significant highlight of the event was the launch of UN Tourism's latest Investment Guidelines publication, with a focus on Zambia. This new guide offers essential information for international investors, pinpointing growth areas and opportunities within Zambia's expanding tourism sector. This initiative aims to further advance Brand Africa and attract global investment to the continent's tourism industry.
