Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghose on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the government over a recent train derailment in Jharkhand that claimed two lives. Ghose alleged widespread neglect of basic train safety by the authorities, attributing this to a disregard of citizen welfare.
In a post on X, Ghose criticized Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, describing him as a ''part-time rail minister'' preoccupied with BJP's election campaigns in poll-bound states. Ghose's comments followed an incident in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district, where 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed, resulting in two fatalities and 20 injuries.
Targeting the National Democratic Alliance, Ghose questioned, ''How many more train accidents before the National Disaster Alliance government takes action?'' She also accused Prime Minister Modi of prioritizing ceremonial train flag-offs over critical passenger safety, highlighting a lack of government accountability.
