Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday launched 320 electric buses, increasing the total to 1,970.

Saxena and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot emphasized that the additions would aid in reducing pollution and improving public transport. Gahlot described it as an ''important milestone'' for Delhi.

Saxena mentioned that the strengthened public transport system is essential to combatting pollution. Gahlot highlighted that Delhi now boasts the highest number of electric buses in any Indian city and ranks third globally.

The Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) fleet has grown to 7,683 buses, the highest in its history. These new buses are not only environmentally friendly but also come with the latest safety features. Gahlot reiterated that the goal is to continue expanding this fleet.

Since January 2022, Delhi has operated 1,650 electric buses, traveling over 112 million kilometers and saving more than 91,000 tons of CO2. Future plans include having 80% of the fleet as electric by 2025.
