Puducherry's Fiscal Challenges Highlighted in Budget Session
Lt Governor C P Radhakrishnan of Puducherry highlighted the financial constraints of the Union Territory during the inaugural session of the 2024-2025 budget. Despite limited resources, the government committed to supporting welfare initiatives. During the inaugural session of the Puducherry Assembly's budget (2024-2025), Lt Governor C P Radhakrishnan disclosed the financial limitations the Union Territory faces.
Despite these constraints, Radhakrishnan emphasized the government's dedication to funding welfare programs. He revealed that the government's spending reached 93.59 percent of the total outlay, which is a 6.55 percent improvement over the previous year. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increased to Rs 48,052 crores, marking a 7.54 percent rise, while per capita income grew by 7.61 percent.
The Lt Governor also listed the achievements of various departments, including the Karaikal port's revenue and the commencement of cargo operations between Puducherry and Chennai ports. In spite of opposition protests over unfulfilled promises from the last session, Radhakrishnan proceeded with his address.
