In a contentious Lok Sabha session, opposition MPs expressed grave concerns over increasing train accidents, while treasury members lauded government efforts to expand the railway network. The debate was framed around the Demand for Grants for the railways ministry, with MPs presenting demands for new railway lines in their constituencies.
RJD's Abhay Kumar Sinha cited recent accidents as indicators of longstanding issues, urging for increased track expansion and repairs. He lamented that privatization could lead to widespread unemployment. Meanwhile, Congress MP Dean Kuriakose pushed for completing the Angamaly-Sabari project for better regional connectivity.
On the flip side, BJP's Anil Baluni hailed the last decade as a 'golden period' for Indian Railways, emphasizing infrastructure advancements like increased train speeds and extensive track construction. However, Congress MP Harish Meena criticized the political nature of the budget and lack of safety measures. MPs from various regions echoed the need for better rail services and regional projects to boost local economies.
