NHAI Saves Rs 1,000 Crore in Interest Payments with Debt Pre-payment
State-owned NHAI successfully pre-paid Rs 15,700 crore of bank loans, resulting in savings of around Rs 1,000 crore from reduced interest payments. This move also lowers their outstanding debt liability to Rs 3,20,000 crore, aiding in future National Highway projects.
State-owned NHAI announced on Tuesday that it has saved approximately Rs 1,000 crore through a strategic debt payment plan.
According to a statement released by NHAI, the proceeds from InvIT monetization, as directed by the government, were exclusively used for repaying debt. This pre-payment of Rs 15,700 crore in bank loans marks a significant financial milestone for NHAI by reducing its outstanding debt liability to Rs 3,20,000 crore.
The statement also highlighted that engaging actively with lender banks led to reduced interest rates from 8.00-8.10% to 7.58-7.59%. This process allows NHAI to save around Rs 1,000 crore in interest, furthering ongoing and future National Highway projects.
