India Unclear on Sheikh Hasina's Future Amid Regional Discussions

India's foreign ministry stated it is up to Bangladesh's ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina to decide her future plans. Foreign Minister Jaishankar discussed the situation in Bangladesh with Britain's foreign secretary. Hasina fled to India following protests demanding her resignation.

India's foreign ministry declared on Thursday that any decisions about former Bangladeshi prime minister Sheikh Hasina's future are hers to make, with no updates provided on her plans. 'It is not appropriate to talk about her plans,' said spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced a discussion with Britain's foreign secretary regarding the tumultuous situation in Bangladesh and West Asia. The conversation on X highlighted ongoing concerns over regional stability.

Sheikh Hasina fled to India after stepping down as prime minister on Monday amid violent protests calling for her resignation. She is currently taking refuge at an air base in the vicinity of New Delhi.
