China Stocks Surge Amid Accelerated Consumer Prices
China's stock market saw gains on Friday as data indicated a faster-than-expected increase in consumer prices for July. This rise coincided with jumps in global markets, bolstered by lower-than-expected U.S. jobless claims. However, despite the favorable data, analysts remarked on continued sluggish demand.
China's stock market experienced a boost on Friday, following data showing a faster-than-expected rise in consumer prices for July. Analysts tempered this optimism by highlighting persistent sluggish demand.
The stock surge mirrored gains in global markets, supported by lower-than-anticipated U.S. jobless claims, easing fears of a weakening labor market. China's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.5% from a year earlier, surpassing the 0.3% rise forecasted by economists.
Lynn Song, the chief economist of Greater China at ING, noted that while inflation might trend slightly higher, it should not hinder further monetary easing. Song anticipates at least one more rate cut this year. At midday, the Shanghai Composite index rose 0.12%, and blue-chip CSI 300 saw a 0.14% increase, among other sector-specific gains and losses.
