In a dramatic turn, US short seller Hindenburg has leveled fresh allegations against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband, accusing them of investing in an offshore fund linked to Adani. This revelation deepens the ongoing conflict, initially sparked by Hindenburg's January 2023 report against the Adani Group.
On August 10, Hindenburg expressed surprise at SEBI's apparent lack of interest in probing Adani's alleged undisclosed web of offshore entities. They criticized SEBI for not investigating the conglomerate thoroughly, despite the market regulator's ongoing inquiries.
In response, SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch and her husband released a joint statement on August 11, calling the allegations baseless. They clarified that their investments were made from their earnings and had no connection to Adani. Adani Group also refuted the claims, terming them as a recycling of discredited accusations.
