The lira stood at 5.2814 against the dollar at 0453 GMT, little changed from Friday's close of 5.2797. The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond stood at 15.97 percent at Friday's close. The main BIST 100 share index fell 2.43 percent to 90,435.33 points on Friday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian stocks crept higher on Monday as hints of progress on the Sino-U.S. trade standoff provided a rare glimmer of optimism in what has been a rough year-end for equities globally.

U.S. WITHDRAWAL FROM SYRIA

A senior Republican U.S. senator said he emerged from a White House meeting with President Donald Trump on Sunday reassured that Trump is committed to defeating Islamic State even as he plans to withdraw American troops from Syria.

Foreign and defence ministers from Russia and Turkey discussed coordination between their forces in Syria after the United States' decision to withdraw troops from the Arab republic, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday.

SYRIA OPERATION

The Syrian army deployed forces near Manbij in northern Syria on Friday, a war monitor and a U.S. official said, after the Kurdish YPG militia urged Damascus to protect the town, where U.S. forces operate, from the threat of a Turkish offensive.

TRADE BALANCE

The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce foreign trade data for November (1000 GMT).

DEBT STOCK

The Treasury will announce central government debt stock data for the third quarter. (1400)

TREASURY BORROWING PROGRAMME

The Treasury will announce its borrowing programme for the January-March period (1400 GMT).
