The government on Wednesday approved the development of 12 new industrial cities across 10 states, with an investment of Rs 28,602 crore. Aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, these areas will mirror the models of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Dholera in Gujarat.
The cities will be established in Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab), Dighi (Maharashtra), Palakkad (Kerala), Agra and Prayagraj (UP), Gaya (Bihar), Zaheerabad (Telangana), Orvakal and Kopparthy (AP), Jodhpur-Pali (Rajasthan), and one in Haryana. The decision followed a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal revealed details of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, highlighting substantial job creation and investment opportunities. Eight similar cities are currently under various development stages. By prioritizing 'plug and play' infrastructure, the initiative aims to attract both domestic and international investors.
